FactYou's tax receipt explains how much you pay in taxes and mandatory contributions, and where the money goes.

Do you know where your tax euros go? Finland’s tax system is a layered structure where money is collected through several taxes and mandatory contributions, then distributed across different public services. The FactYou tax receipt helps make that visible.

The calculator is private by design: all calculations happen directly in your browser. Your salary, municipality and birth year are not sent to our servers.

Example: salary earner with 3500 €/month

For a salary earner in Helsinki earning 3500 euros per month, the monthly total of taxes and mandatory payments is roughly:

  • Total taxes and contributions: about 1050 €/month
  • Effective tax rate: about 30%
  • Net salary: about 2450 €/month

How the calculator works

Simple mode

In simple mode you only need:

  • monthly salary
  • municipality
  • birth year
  • church membership

Advanced mode

Advanced mode supports multiple income types, more detailed capital income input and common deductions.

What the total consists of

The total is usually made up of:

  • state tax
  • municipal tax
  • Yle tax
  • church tax
  • pension contribution
  • unemployment insurance
  • health insurance contribution

The tax receipt shows these in one place and makes municipal spending easier to understand.

Where municipal tax goes

Municipal tax is typically used for education, social services, healthcare, culture and recreation, infrastructure and administration. The calculator aims to turn that budget structure into something concrete for one person.

Sources

The calculator relies on public Finnish data sources, including the Tax Administration, the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, Statistics Finland and open municipal finance datasets.
